I found this on-line: The yolk sac first appears during the fifth week of pregnancy and grows to be no larger than 6 mm. Yolk sacs larger than 6 mm are usually indicative of an abnormal pregnancy.

Enlarged Yolk Sac
I was feeling a bit stressed about my last visit and the baby measuring behind a week so I called for an appointment this week. The baby has grown but is still behind. He is measuring 7 weeks 1 day and I was 8 weeks 4 days when the scan was taken. I did hear the heart beat which is so amazing but then I got some bad news. The yolk sac is measuring 9.2 mm and it should be disappearing and becoming the umbilical cord. This is an indication that something might be abnormal with the baby and I could suffer a miscarriage.

ReplyDeleteJust popping over from LFCA. Thinking of you. Stay positive & strong.
ReplyDeleteI stumbled upon your blog from LFCA, but wanted to tell you that in 2006 after IVF my early ultrasounds were funky with the sac measuring 2 weeeks behind for several weeks and very low betas but low and behold I have a healthy 3 year old to show for it. Obviously you did not receive good news but I just wanted to pass along that every once in awhile there is a miracle.
ReplyDeleteI'll be praying for you!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry for the uncertainty. I just went through some uncertain measurements and heartbeat a few weeks ago and I know how hard it is.
ReplyDeleteI will be praying that everything is okay and that the baby is fine.
i just prayed for you...

ReplyDeleteI will pray for you. I am 6 weeks and my baby is measuring 1 week behind and had a very faint heart beat so my RE prepared me for a m/c. I go back on Thursday for another u/s. This is our 2nd frozen embryo transfer and was the last embryo. Our 1st fresh cycle was positive but sadly ended at 13 weeks with a trisomy 18 baby daughter. I, too, wondered why God lets it go this far. He has a master plan so all we can do is pray for that miracle and know that we are not alone. Bless you and your little bean!!
ReplyDeleteHi, I just ran across this. I am in the same boat as you... I am 7 weeks 1 day if you go by my LMP, but I am only measuring 6 weeks. At my first u/s last week, the u/s tech noticed a large yolk sac... I think it was about 5mm and the baby was only measuring 1.66mm. The heartbeat was low - 75bpm. I was told I would probably miscarry within a week so I was scheduled to come back in for another u/s this morning and she scheduled the D&C for 12pm this afternoon. I did IVF as well...this was my 1st FET. The RE did the u/s and I immediately saw the hb...she was shocked. The heartbeat is now 113, the baby has grown to 4.8mm but the yolk sac has also grown....7.6mm, I believe. I am still waiting to hear back from the RE, she was going to call a high risk doc in our area. They have put into our heads that there is something wrong with this baby, but I have read stories where that was not the case. I wonder if there is a link between clomid and IVF cycles, b/c most threads I have read, where the baby ended up fine, it was either a clomid or IVF cycle...very strange.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this! Yesterday, 11/01/10, I went for my first u/s and the doctor told me that I hvae an enlarged yolk sac and there is a 90% of miscarriage. I'm going for a 2nd opinion tomorrow with a different doctor. She said there was heartbeat and that was that. I felt rushed. The u/s seemed like a minute max, and she didn't even try to really look. Keep us updated. I want to know what happens
ReplyDeleteHello, I think it's very brave of you to share your struggle with others. My husband and I are 10 weeks along and I am nervously waiting to go back to my dr. Next Thursday (11/18) to see if our baby still has a heartbeat. We had an ultrasound on 10/28 and the dr told us we have an enlarged yolk sac. He told me he didn't want to do bloodwork because he didn't want us to waste our money. The positive news is that the baby had grown and had a faster heartbeat from the u/s the previous week. At first I felt like I had already lost the baby and just waited for the rest to happen but my husband has been a great support system and with prayers I'm am thinking more positively. I'm so sorry for your stuggle and I pray that God will soon bless you with a beautiful baby. Not that it makes the situation better, but it's nice to read support from others and know that so many that may not know you are still praying for all the best.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, I'm not sure if you noticed the date of this post but it was Jan 2010. You can continue reading about our journey. I did lose the baby at 9 weeks. The last heart I heard was at 8 weeks but there was very little growth from week 7 to 8. I hope you have better luck than I did and it sounds like things are turning around for you. Our journey is over and it saddens me to say that we are still not parents. Please feel free to email me at bjhinga@comcast.net if you want to chat or update me on your situation. Peaches
